Report: Tottenham are ‘monitoring’ player who has asked to leave PL rival

Manchester Evening News have revealed that reported Tottenham target Dean Henderson has informed Manchester United of his desire to leave the club on loan in January.

There continues to be a question mark over Hugo Lloris’ future at Spurs, with the Frenchman now into the final six months of his contract.

Although some reports have indicated that Tottenham are confident their captain will sign an extension, there continues to be speculation linking the goalkeeper with a return to Ligue 1.

The Daily Mail previously reported that Henderson is one of the options Spurs were eyeing as Lloris’ potential long-term successor.

MEN have now backed up that claim, stating that Tottenham are keeping an eye on the Man Utd man’s situation with a view to signing him in the summer.

The report asserts that Henderson has made it clear to Ralf Rangnick that he wishes to leave Old Trafford on loan this month, which is thought to be the reason the goalkeeper was left out of United’s squad for their FA Cup clash against Aston Villa on Monday.

MEN add that United are ‘continuing’ their efforts to secure the England international a loan move before the transfer deadline.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not convinced that there is anything concrete behind Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Henderson. I suspect the speculation has emerged mainly due to the uncertainty regarding Lloris’ future. I remain confident that the Frenchman will put pen to paper on a new deal at Spurs.
