Report: Tottenham are not put off by club’s £38m valuation of centre-back

CaclioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur would be willing to pay a big transfer fee for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies is Tottenham’s number one priority in the summer and named Bastoni as one of four names on the North London club’s wishlist for the role.

The 23-year-old will have two years left to run on his current deal at the San Siro at the end of this season (Transfermarkt).

CaclioMercato have now claimed that Inter might not renew Bastoni’s contract and could be open to sacrificing him in order to make room for Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer.

If the Serie A club do decide to cash in on the Italy international, it is said that an offer is expected to be forthcoming from Tottenham.

Antonio Conte is alleged to be keen on reuniting with Bastoni at Spurs and it is stated that the Lilywhites would have ‘no problems’ increasing the centre-back’s current salary of €3m (£2.5m) per season.

The report adds that Tottenham will not be put off by Inter’s €45m (£37.8m) asking price for Bastoni and would be ‘willing to sit at the table’ to begin negotiations.

Bastoni would be the ideal fit for the left-sided centre-back role and the fact that he is well-versed with Conte’s system is a huge bonus.

I suspect he will be at the top of Spurs’ wishlist but it remains to be seen if Inter would be open to selling the 23-year-old. I suspect that the Nerrazuri would rather sacrifice the likes of De Vrij and Skriniar over Bastoni.
