Report: Tottenham are not the favourites to sign Weston McKennie now

Tuttosport have revealed that Borussia Dortmund are now the frontrunners in the race for Tottenham target Weston McKennie in January.

Of all the players who have been linked with a move to Tottenham over recent months, perhaps no name has been mentioned as frequently as McKennie’s.

Ben Jacobs revealed a couple of weeks ago that the North London club are ‘seriously considering’ a move for the USA international while La Repubblica also named Spurs as the club at the front of the queue for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed to CBS Sports a couple of days ago that McKennie has been on Spurs’ radar over recent months and added that there is a ‘serious possibility’ of the player leaving the Allianz Stadium in January.

Tuttosport have now backed up Romano’s claim regarding the former Schalke man’s future in Turin, explaining that the midfielder is viewed as the most expendable by Juve, who are looking to raise funds to make moves for their transfer targets.

This is because the Old Lady believe that the American is likely to fetch a decent amount in the market and the player is not an important part of Massimiliano Allegri’s plans.

However, the report asserts that, as things stand, Dortmund are ‘ahead of others’ in the race for McKennie’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given the success that McKennie had in the Bundesliga before his move to Juve, it is not surprising that Dortmund are keen on the 24-year-old.

It is unclear if the USA international is at the top of Conte’s and Paratici’s wishlist as other attacking midfielders like Kessie, Malinovskyi and Kudus have also been mooted as targets for the North London club over recent weeks.
