Report: Tottenham are not willing to pay £50m for key Postecoglou target

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed in his column on Sportscasting that Chelsea value Conor Gallagher at £50m, which is a fee that Tottenham would not be willing to pay for the midfielder this summer.

The report backs up what we have heard already from other sources by stating that some members of the Chelsea board see Gallagher as one of their most sellable assets this summer.

Given the club’s PSR issues, many want to cash in on him since the proceeds from his sale will go down as pure profit in the club’s account.

However, the report says that Mauricio Pochettino’s future at Stamford Bridge could have a major bearing on whether the midfielder stays or leaves.

Tottenham not willing to meet Chelsea’s valuation

Jones asserts that Gallagher has not given up hope that a breakthrough can be reached in his contract talks with Chelsea, given how highly Pochettino values him.

The report claims that while Pochettino wants the England international to stay, the chances of the player leaving will go up if the Argentine is sacked.

According to Jones, while Spurs remain keen on securing Gallagher, they have no intention of matching the Blues’ £50m valuation.

The journalist adds that Newcastle are also circling over the 24-year-old but he would prefer not to move so far away from his home base in Surrey.

Even if Pochettino ends up staying, I doubt he would have the power to demand that Chelsea keep Gallagher at the club. So the 24-year-old looks nailed on to leave and Tottenham would hope to get him for a cut-price fee, given the Blues’ financial predicament.
