Report: Tottenham are now in ‘pole position’ to sign attacker in January

The transfer saga surrounding Tottenham Hotspur and Ruslan Malinovskyi appears to be reaching something of a breakthrough ahead of the January transfer window.

Spurs were first linked with Malinovskyi in the summer (TMW) but the 29-year-old remained with Atalanta. He’s not had the best start to the current season though, and has been frustrated at his limited game time.

Malinovskyi has made just 14 appearances for Atalanta this term, with most of them coming from the bench (Transfermarkt). This has prompted reports that the Ukraine international will be allowed to leave the club in January, as claimed by Gazzetta dello Sport (16/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness).

Should that be the case, Spurs will be ready and waiting. According to Alasdair Gold for Football.London, Malinovskyi is the one target Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte have looked at ahead of the January transfer window.

Now, a fresh report from Sport Mediaset has named Tottenham Hotspur in their discussion of the winter market, and have some promising information relating to the future of Ruslan Malinovskyi.

The report claims that while other clubs are looking, the North London side are now in ‘pole position’ to acquire Malinovskyi in the upcoming transfer window.

This is backed up by CalcioMercato who say Spurs held exploratory talks during the summer and can expect to see ‘more concrete’ developments in the near future ahead of the new year.

Spurs Web Opinion

You would think that this deal has to happen now, given the fact the player is keen on leaving, the club don’t seem to want to keep him, and Spurs are interested in signing him. It sounds like a lot of groundwork has been put in to get this deal in place and all that’s left is to get it over the line in January.
