Report: Tottenham are now just £1m short of asking price for Djed Spence

Football Insider have now revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Middlesbrough are only £1m apart in their respective valuations of Djed Spence.

Spence’s proposed move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium had been thrown into doubt over the last week.

Sky Sports (Transfer centre 24/06/22 at 10:38) revealed last week that Tottenham were not willing to meet Boro’s asking price for the right-back and the North London club had identified Jonathan Clauss and Wilfried Singo as potential alternatives.

The Guardian even claimed yesterday that Boro were growing ‘irritated’ by the lack of a serious offer from Tottenham and were ready to sell the player to Nottingham Forest instead.

However, according to Football Insider, Spurs are now nearing a breakthrough in their negotiations with Boro for Spence following new discussions between Daniel Levy and his Boro counterpart Steve Gibson.

The report asserts that Tottenham have now upped their bid for the right-back to £20m including add-ons, which is the fee that the Championship club were thought to be demanding from the outset.

All parties are now said to be increasingly confident of reaching a full agreement on the transfer in time for Spurs’ pre-season tour.

I never had any doubts that Spurs would get the Spence deal done, despite Levy seemingly haggling Boro regarding the fee over the last couple of weeks. Spence’s arrival should also accelerate the sale of Emerson Royal, with Atletico Madrid seemingly keen on the 23-year-old.
