Report: Tottenham are now monitoring another Serie A centre-back

According to a report in Il Resto Del Carlino (as relayed by Tutto Bologna Web), Tottenham Hotspur are now monitoring Bologna centre-back Riccardo Calafiori.

Last week, Spurs raided the Serie A for one of the league’s most promising young defenders in Radu Dragusin, and it has now emerged that the club are eyeing another one of the best emerging centre-backs in Italy.

Since arriving from Basel last summer, Calafiori has hardly put a foot wrong, establishing himself as a leader at the back of Thiago Motta’s backline despite being just 21 years of age.

Spurs have a growing interest in Riccardo Calafiori

A call-up to the senior Italy squad might not be too far away for the Bologna star and he is now thought to be attracting interest from a number of clubs.

This is said to include Tottenham, who have allegedly ‘watched him a lot and asked about him’ while the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, and Napoli are also thought to be keeping tabs on the youngster.

The report adds that Calafiori is expected to become the topic of ‘a lot of discussion’ in the summer but the Italy Under-21 international is expected to stay put at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara for the rest of the campaign.

It has been widely reported over the last few months that Tottenham are continuing to lean on Fabio Paratici’s expertise when it comes to the Italian market and Calafiori certainly appears to be another starlet who has been recommended by the former Spurs managing director.
