Report: Tottenham are now ‘stepping up’ interest in 19-year-old starlet

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are stepping up their pursuit of Blackburn Rovers sensation Adam Wharton.

Tottenham raided Blackburn for one of their young starlets last summer in Ashley Phillips and it now appears as if the Lilywhites are set to repeat the track again, with the Premier League side now alleged to be eying Wharton.

It was reported by 90 min at the end of November that the North London side had sent scouts to Ewood Park on multiple occasions to scout the midfielder, who has set the Championship alight this season.

Spurs are making advances for Adam Wharton

According to Football Insider’s latest update, Ange Postecoglou’s men are now ready to step up their interest in the England Under-20 international.

The outlet says that Tottenham’s recruitment chiefs feel that the 19-year-old is destined for the very top and is a ‘potential star in the making’.

However, it is explained that a move is not likely to happen during the current transfer window as Blackburn will demand ‘top dollar’ for the midfielder right now.

The report adds that Spurs are not the only Premier League side eyeing Wharton, with Crystal Palace and Everton also said to be keen on securing the youngster’s services.

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Tottenham are now a much more attractive destination to budding youngsters than they were previously, given Postecolgou’s track record of trusting up-and-coming players.

However, the likes of Wharton would likely be wary of making a straight jump to a club like Spurs and would perhaps lean towards a move to a smaller side as a stepping stone, just as Alex Scott did last summer.
