ESPN have now claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of many clubs who are interested in James Maddison ahead of the January transfer window.
The speculation over Maddison’s future has hit a fever pitch over the last couple of months, which is not surprising considering the attacking midfielder’s form this season.
The 26-year-old has scored seven times and provided four assists in 13 Premier League games so far and his current contract at the King Power Stadium has 18 months left to run (Transfermarkt).
Spurs have been one of the clubs most frequently mentioned as a potential destination for Maddison, with Football Insider reporting a couple of months ago that the midfielder would jump at the chance to sign Antonio Conte’s men.
More recently, however, Newcastle are reported to have entered the race for the Leicester City star, with The Northern Echo suggesting a couple of weeks ago that he is at the top of the Magpies’ shortlist ahead of January.
ESPN have now backed up Spurs’ interest in Maddison, stating that the North London club are monitoring the England international.
However, the publication adds that the Lilywhites face competition from ‘several clubs’ for the attacking midfielder, without naming the clubs in question.

As pointed out by the likes of Ben Jacobs (GiveMeSport) recently, it might not be in Maddison’s best interest to leave Leicester in January. The 26-year-old would be better served waiting until next summer so that there is clarity on which clubs can offer him Champions League football.
