Report: Tottenham are one of the clubs ‘in line’ for 25-year-old goalkeeper

Turkish publication Fotospor have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs who are interested in signing Trabzonspor’s Ugurcan Cakir.

There has been plenty of speculation over Hugo Lloris’ future over the past couple of months, with the Frenchman set to run into the final 12 months of his Tottenham contract.

Rumours have indicated that the Tottenham captain wants to return to Ligue 1 at the end of the season.

A number of names have been mentioned in the press as potential replacements for the 34-year-old including Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, Burnley’s Nick Pope and West Brom’s Sam Johnstone.

Cakir meanwhile, has been a rumoured long-term target for Spurs, being linked with a move to the North Londoners as far back as 2019.

Fotospor now claim that the 25-year-old is wanted by many clubs around Europe including Spurs, who are ‘in line’ for the shot-stopper.

The report reveals that Trabzonspor have already rejected three offers for the Turkish international that have come from Borussia Dortmund, Atalanta and PSV Eindhoven.

It is said that all three offers have been around the €20m mark (£17.3m) and Tottenham have taken information about Cakir ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

If Lloris does leave this summer and Spurs are in the market for a number one, then I would much rather see us go for someone like Cakir or Donnarumma over Johnstone or Pope. However, I expect Lloris to stay and sign a contract extension and I believe we are likely to pick up someone like Johnstone on a cut-price deal to serve as Hugo’s understudy and potentially challenge him for the number one shirt.
