Report: Tottenham are one of three PL clubs ‘vigilant’ on 64-year-old manager

According to Il Messaggero (as relayed by Citta Celeste), Tottenham Hotspur are keeping an eye on Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri as they continue to hunt for Antonio Conte’s replacement.

Over the past week, Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as Tottenham’s top managerial target, with Daniel Levy thought to have held a meeting with the German in London in recent days (CaughtOffside).

The Independent reported a couple of days ago that Spurs will do everything in their power to try and persuade the former Bayern Munich boss to take the job, and if they fail to do so, they would turn their attention to Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot.

However, Il Messaggero have now suggested that Sarri’s name is also on Tottenham’s wishlist.

The publication states that while the 64-year-old remains happy at Lazio, having recently turned down a €7m (£6.1m) per year offer to manage in the United Arab Emirates, he might be on his way out of Rome if the club do not back him in the summer transfer market.

It is alleged that AC Milan are keeping a close eye on Sarri while Tottenham are also ‘vigilant’ to his situation, along with fellow Premier League sides, Newcastle and Everton.

The fact that this report mentions Newcastle and Everton (neither of whom are likely to change managers anytime soon) is proof that this is baseless speculation.

It is clear that Sarri is not anywhere near the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Conte.
