Report: Tottenham are ones to watch in race for Premier League defender

TuttoMercatoWeb have revealed that despite Napoli’s interest in Max Kilman, it is Tottenham who are currently best placed to snap up the Wolves centre-back.

It first emerged over a month ago that Kilman was on Tottenham’s radar (90 min) but it appears that Napoli were the first to make a move for the centre-back this summer.

The Athletic reported last Sunday that the Serie A club had launched an offer of €35m (£30m) for the 25-year-old.

The report explained that Wolves had turned down the offer and had no intention of accepting any fee less than €40m (£34.3m) for Kilman.

Spurs now at the front of the queue for Max Kilman

TMW have now also reported on Napoli’s failed offer, explaining that the Serie A club have identified Kilman as their top target to replace Bayern Munich-bound Kim Min-jae.

The publication explains that for the moment, there is no sign that the Italian club are going to launch an improved bid for the Wolves star but it is suggested that Spurs are the ones to ‘keep an eye on’.

The report adds that Kilman’s preference is to remain in the Premier League and Tottenham are the ones who are ‘carrying on the closest contacts’ over a deal for the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Kilman ticks plenty of boxes for Spurs and Postecoglou, being homegrown, good on the ball and having Premier League experience under his belt.

However, it seems like Tottenham are looking towards Germany to fill the left centre-back role, with Van de Ven and Tapsoba seemingly being the names at the top of the Lilywhites’ wishlist.
