Report: Tottenham rumoured to be preparing a bid for £43m Roma man

Depending on whether Tottenham are able to keep Christian Eriksen this summer, they may be on the lookout for a new playmaker to add to their ranks.

After failing to bring in a single new face over the last year or so, Spurs will surely be looking to spend some money this summer.

Italian media outlet Tuttosport report that Spurs are preparing a record-breaking offer for Roma attacking midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo.

At just 19 years of age, Zaniolo has been a shining light in Ranieri’s side this season, playing in 33 games, and scoring six goals so far, including two in the Champions League.

Zaniolo has even been called up to the senior Italian national team, earning two caps in EURO 2020 qualifiers this season.

This wouldn’t be the first time Tottenham have splurged on an attacking Roma player either, as the Lilywhites broke their transfer record back in 2013 when buying Erik Lamela for around £30m (BBC).

Spurs Web Opinion-

Mauricio Pochettino has always been a fan in putting faith in young players, and Daniel Levy similarly likes to invest in players who he believes will increase in value. Playmaker is a position in which Spurs are a tad short, with Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela the only out-and-out players in that area. If Tottenham were going to spend big money on an attacking mid this summer, Zaniolo wouldn’t be a bad way to go.
