Report: Tottenham are readying a ‘shock last-gasp bid’ before January window closes

Football Insider have reported that Tottenham are readying a ‘shock last-gasp bid’ for Conor Gallagher before the January transfer window slams shut.

The report claims sources have informed the publication that Spurs will revive their Gallagher interest after they failed to land other midfield targets this month, including Kalvin Phillips.

Spurs are said to be ‘long-term admirers’ of Gallagher and are keen to move for him despite the 23-year-old playing for arch-rivals, Chelsea. Tottenham have reportedly been in talks with the Blues this month, but Chelsea want a whopping £80 million for their midfielder.

Tottenham are readying a last-gasp bid for Conor Gallagher

Gallagher’s Chelsea contract is up in just 18 months, so it remains to be seen what Daniel Levy and Spurs actually think he is worth in the current transfer market. The West London club are said to be wary of FFP rules and could be tempted into a sale (Ben Jacobs).

Ange Postecoglou is said to be on the lookout for a quality number eight to add to his Tottenham midfield and Gallagher fits the bill (The Independent).

Spurs Web Opinion:

This seems like too big of a deal for Tottenham to get done last-minute in January. It has the look of a long summer saga if Postecoglou really wants him that bad. I suspect better, cheaper options will become available come the end of the season.
