Report: Tottenham are set to battle Brentford for 20-year-old winger

Tottenham Hotspur are thought to be in the race to sign PSV Eindhoven wide-man, Johan Bakayoko, in January. But Brentford are still keen, too.

Ange Postecoglou has seen his squad hit by quite the injury crisis of late, with a number of attacking players such as James Maddison, Richarlison, Manor Solomon, and Ivan Perisic ruled out for an extended period.

A high-flying start saw Spurs sitting atop the Premier League table after ten games, but that has faltered recently. Three defeats on the bounce have left the Lilywhites in fifth place.

The latest loss came at home to Aston Villa. That’s despite Spurs dominating the first 45 minutes and wasting a whole host of chances throughout the game.

Heung-min Son has been Tottenham’s main source of goals this season, with eight to his name so far (Transfermarkt). Yet it seems Postecoglou wants, and perhaps needs, extra support in those attacking areas.

Spurs to battle Brentford for Bakayoko

With the January transfer window opening soon, it’s thought a wide attacker will be a priority for Spurs. And according to Sky Sports, Johan Bakayoko could be the target, but Brentford are also circling.

Bakayoko has played a “starring” role in PSV’s Champions League campaign and now has “big clubs on the hunt” for his signature.

Tottenham are included on the list of suitors, having been interested in the summer. Brentford were also pursuing Bakayoko in August and nearly had a move secured before the 20-year-old opted to stay with PSV.

Whether Spurs or Brentford, or neither, will make a move in the upcoming window remains to be seen.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m sure we will be linked to pretty much every talented, young winger in the next month or so, but Bakayoko is definitely a standout. His explosive power and pace could be devastating if utilised in Postecoglou’s style of play.
