Report: Tottenham are set to poach a third person from Aston Villa

Charlie Ecclashare has revealed in a Q&A on The Athletic that Aston Villa’s Head of Football Research Frederik Leth is expected to join Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs recently appointed Villa’s former technical director Johan Lange as their director of football, with the 43-year-old taking over from Fabio Paratici who resigned back in April.

Lange is wasting no time in putting his own structure in place in North London, with reports indicating that Rob Mackenzie is set to follow him to Spurs and take over as the Lilywhites’ new chief scout (Matt Law).

Eccleshare has now revealed that Lange is also going to raid Villa Park for Leth, who has been working as the Midlands club’s head of football research for the last three years.

The Dane previously spent eight years at FC Copenhagen, where he held various positions, including technical scout, and head of scouting and analytics, before eventually becoming the club’s technical director.

Eccelshare has now claimed that Leth will reunite with Lange for a third time after working with him at his previous two clubs, with the journalist explaining that the expected newcomer is renowned for his ability to spot talent.

As expected, Lange has been given the freedom by Scott Munn and Daniel Levy to bring his own people in.

This might be the main reason why Tottenham did not want to bring in a new sporting director during the summer as the club might have been hesitant to make big changes to the structure midway into a transfer window.
