Report: Tottenham are still keen on sporting director despite recent scrutiny

Kicker have now claimed that despite there being an inquest at Bayern Munich into some of the recent transfer decisions made by their technical director Marco Neppe, Tottenham remain keen on the German.

Multiple reports over the past couple of weeks have indicated that Tottenham have stepped up their efforts to appoint a new sporting director to replace Fabio Paratici (Daily Mirror).

One of the names on the North London club’s radar is thought to be Neppe, with journalist Georg Holzner being the first to report last week that Spurs are keeping an eye on the 36-year-old amidst doubts over his future at the Allianz Arena.

Kicker have now revealed that Marco Neppe and some of the other Bayern Munich officials are now being scrutinised due to the Bundesliga club’s poor showing this campaign.

It is explained that the German director was responsible for the signings of Sadio Mane, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui last summer, with none of them performing at the levels expected.

However, the report adds that the failed transfers ‘didn’t damage’ Neppe’s reputation among the Tottenham hierarchy, with the Premier League side continuing to eye a move for the Bayern man.

It is surprising that Arne Slot now seems to have emerged as Tottenham’s number one managerial target even though there is still no clarity on who is likely to be the club’s next sporting director.

That perhaps suggests that Spurs are looking to give a relatively limited role to the incoming director, primarily to do with player recruitment, allowing Scott Munn to make the big decisions that drive the club culture such as the managerial appointment.
