Report: Tottenham are still willing to hijack deal for 18-year-old

The rollercoaster ride surrounding Antonio Nusa’s future is taking new twists and turns every day at the moment, but the latest report on his situation suggests Tottenham still want to sign him and will look to hijack Brentford’s approach.

This time last week, Spurs looked to be in the driving seat with a €30m (£25.7m) deal for Antonio Nusa very much on the cards. The proposal would have seen the 18-year-old remain with Club Brugge until the end of the campaign (The Athletic).

However, with interest from elsewhere, there was always a risk the move could collapse. Exactly that happened when, over the weekend, fellow Premier League side Brentford swooped in and very quickly agreed terms with both Club Brugge and Nusa (Fabrizio Romano).

In a further twist, Ben Jacobs revealed Nusa failed his medical at Brentford due to knee and back problems, with the former thought to be ‘serious’ and the move now seemingly out of the window.

Spurs still want Antonio Nusa

One would think that would be it for Nusa, at least for the winter window, but there is thought to be interest from Tottenham’s side still. That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, who suggest the Lilywhites may look to jump in and secure the signing of the Norwegian.

With Brentford doing their due diligence and ensuring the player is 100% fit and healthy, and Club Brugge are now waiting patiently for the outcome. The report states Brentford could well pull out of the deal entirely.

That wouldn’t be the end of the world for the Belgian side, however, because there are “still clubs interested” in the young winger. Apparently, Brugge are well aware that Spurs could be a viable alternative to Brentford for Nusa.

Despite the injury issues and the snub earlier this week, Tottenham still “really want” Nusa and it cannot be ruled out that they will return with a new proposal.

I know this injury doesn’t have to mean Antonio Nusa’s career is over or anything, but I struggle to understand why Spurs would pursue him now. He’s already turned us down anyway, and if he’s not in good condition, it would be such a risk for us.
