Report: Tottenham are watching Brazilian starlet closely after World Cup showing

90 min have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are one of several Premier League clubs who are interested in Santos sensation Marcos Leonardo, who is turning a lot of heads with his performances in the Under-20 World Cup.

Despite being just 20 years of age, Leonardo has already made 140 senior appearances for Santos, scoring 42 goals and providing 10 assists (Transfermakrt).

The centre-forward has made a fine start to the Under-20 World Cup, netting thrice in Brazil’s first two matches against Italy and the Dominican Republic.

90 min state that Leonardo was already on the radar of several clubs and his performances in the tournament have only increased the excitement around him, with several Premier League clubs said to have sent scouts to Argentina to watch the youngster in action.

The report names Tottenham as one of the Santos star’s ‘admirers’ while Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United also said to be watching him, with West Ham even thought to have had an offer rejected for the striker in January.

In addition, Leonardo is also alleged to be on the radars of Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma ahead of the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham do not tend to sign young talents straight from South American football.

Even if the club’s recruitment team had recommended Leonardo highly, I doubt the North London club would consider an offer for him, especially given that they are yet to appoint a sporting director.
