According to Football Insider, sources have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could soon terminate the contract of former captain, Hugo Lloris.
The Sun revealed that Lloris had the opportunity to join Premier League rivals Newcastle United on deadline day but he turned them down because he did not want to be a second-choice.
Around a week ago, Le Figaro reported that the 36-year-old veteran shot-stopper was ‘unhappy’ at Tottenham and that he was desperate for an exit from the club in January.
The report also added that one of the reasons why Lloris did not leave in the summer was that he expected chairman Daniel Levy to let him go on a free transfer but the club were looking to get a fee for him.
Despite not getting any game time, Lloris has been a true professional off the pitch. Vicario explained to Sky Sports Football Daily how Lloris had taken him under his wing and helped him settle into life in the Premier League.
Tottenham could terminate Hugo Lloris’ contract
Spurs have reached a point now where they are willing to agree a pay-off with their former captain and let him leave on a free transfer, since he has been completely frozen out of the first team.
Lloris has not made a matchday squad this season, even though Spurs named two keepers on the bench against Aston Villa and were a man light in their matchday squad.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Lloris harbours any hope of continuing his playing career at the highest level, he needs to leave Spurs in the upcoming transfer window. Many clubs could still do with a player of the Frenchman’s calibre.
The 36-year-old has been a great servant for the club. He will go down as a Tottenham legend. It is clear that his time here is up and we seem to have found a worthy successor in Guglielmo Vicario. Seeing him leave will be a sad moment but let’s hope he can continue his career elsewhere.
