Report: Tottenham are willing to pay £17.5m to sign former Arsenal star

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a summer move for Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Szczesny is set to enter the final year of his contract at the Allianz Stadium this June (Transfermarkt) and it is explained that Spurs are now eyeing the Pole as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris.

The report asserts that Fabio Paratici is a big fan of the 32-year-old and wants to reunite with the player at the North London club.

However, the publication asserts that the Premier League club will not be prepared to pay more than €18m-€20m (£15.7m-£17.5m) for Szczesny.

CMW.it add that such a fee might be enough to convince Juventus to sell the goalkeeper, given his contract situation.

The Old Lady are said to be considering cashing in on the experienced shot-stopper and using the funds to sign either Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario or Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi.

Finally, it is claimed that the Lilywhites would be prepared to offer Szczesny a two-year contract worth €7m (£6.1m) per year, with the option of a third year.

Spurs Web Opinion

Firstly, Szczesny will be 33 years of age next month, which means that he will only be a temporary stop-gap rather than Lloris’ long-term replacement.

Besides, I am not sure that the Pole will want to get into the bad books of Arsenal fans by signing for their North London rivals.
