Report: Tottenham battling with Premier League rivals for Ajax starlet

Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are reportedly both interested in signing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, according to 90min.

The two London clubs have been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old centre-back after he made his breakthrough to the senior side last season.

He made 20 appearances under head coach Erik ten Hag, becoming a vital member of the Ajax squad that won the Eredivisie last season

Timber made his international debut for the Netherlands this year and made one start during Euro 2020, lining up in a back three during their 3-2 group stage win against Ukraine.

90min claim Timber’s rise to the top has attracted the interest of a host of Premier League sides, with rivals Spurs and Chelsea currently leading the way for his signature.

The central defender still has three years remaining on his contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena, meaning Ajax may be in no rush to sell one of their prized assets any time soon.

Spurs head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has strengthened the defence in a short space of time, creating a solid defensive tandem between Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier. The North London side also still have summer signing Cristian Romero to come in.
