Report: Tottenham can sign target for £21m now or £29.5m if they wait too long

Tottenham are named as a ‘strong suitor’ to sign Espanyol’s Joan Garcia this summer, but the Lilywhites will have to get a move on if they want a good deal for the shot-stopper.

Tottenham are interested in Joan Garcia

AS and El Desmarque both named Tottenham, Real Madrid and Arsenal as the three frontrunners competing for Joan Garcia’s signature this summer.

In fact, the latter even suggested that Spurs were leading the race and had already reached out to Espanyol about potentially signing the 23-year-old.

However, the price may be on the way up if Spurs, Arsenal and Real Madrid hang around too long.

Joan Garcia is about to become more expensive

Mundo Deportivo now report that Joan Garcia, who has a release clause of €25m this summer (£21m) is about to become more expensive (via Sport Witness).

The release clause is set to rise to €30m (£25.3m) on August 15 and will increase again to €35m (£29.5m) if he receives a call-up to Spain’s senior international squad.

Luis de la Fuente will announce his next Spain squad in August and Unai Simon will miss out through injury, seemingly opening up a spot in the team for the September internationals.

If Tottenham want to sign a new number two to offer support and competition to Guglielmo Vicario, they need to hurry up before Garcia’s transfer fee shoots up in two weeks.

Spurs Web Opinion:

I suspect Tottenham will not prioritise a new senior goalkeeper this summer, with so many other boxes to tick before the transfer window slams shut.

If they sign anyone, it will be a youngster to become the new third-choice rather than a £20m-£30m signing, with Fraser Forster staying in North London for another year.
