Report: Tottenham centre-back target now expected to remain at current club

Cadena SER journalist Bruno Alemany has revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Pau Torres is now expected to remain at Villarreal this summer.

Previous reports indicated that Torres was one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist this summer for the left-sided centre-back role (Football.London).

It was even suggested last month that Spurs might use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in a deal to sign the Spain international from Villarreal (Daily Mail).

However, over the last two weeks, it has become apparent that Clement Lenglet has emerged as Tottenham’s top centre-back target.

Sport even reported on Tuesday that the Frenchman has travelled to London to complete his medical ahead of completing a season-long loan move to the Lilywhites.

If Alemany’s latest update is to be believed, it seems like Torres is no longer an option Spurs are considering this summer.

The journalist took to social media to claim that unless there is a big offer from one of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester City, the 25-year-old is expected to remain at El Madrigal for the 2022/23 campaign.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am surprised that Spurs turned their attention to Lenglet instead of Torres once it became clear that Bastoni and Gvardiol were not gettable this summer.

Conte has spoken a lot about signing players who have PL-specific attributes and perhaps the Italian felt that Torres did not have the physicality to cope with the demands of English football.
