Report: Tottenham close to agreeing deal for 22-year-old central defender

Multiple sources are now reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to snap up Swansea City defender Joe Rodon.

After reports that Tottenham’s pursuit of Milan Skriniar had fallen through, it was claimed that Jose Mourinho’s men would prioritise a move for Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger instead (Football Insider).

However, with the Rudiger deal also reportedly falling through, it appeared as if the Lilywhites might not be able to sign a central defender before the 11 pm transfer deadline.

It now appears that Spurs have instead turned their attentions towards the Championship and are about to swoop for Rodon, who is highly-rated at the Welsh club.

The Athletic’s Stuart James suggests that Spurs have identified the Wales international as a target and are weighing up whether or not to make a bid for him.

Sky Sports have gone a step further and revealed that the Lilywhites are close to agreeing an £18m deal with Swansea for the 22-year-old.

Others, such as Charlie Eccleshare, have claimed that Swansea value Rodon at £18m, but Spurs only want to pay £7m.

Alasdair Gold has also confirmed Tottenham interest, although claimed a firm offer has not yet been made. He also pointed out that the deal can be done after 11 pm as the domestic EFL window is open for another 11 days.
