Report: Tottenham ‘confident’ of completing deal for 22-year-old

Tottenham Hotspur are confident of signing Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu, this month according to Football Insider.

Tomiyasu is part of Japan’s Olympic team for the Games in Tokyo which kicks off on July 23rd.

Should Japan progress to the latter stages and be in with a chance of winning a medal, the defender could be involved until August 7th, a week before the start of the new Premier League campaign.

The centre-back, who is also comfortable on the right-hand side of defence is said to be keen on a move to Tottenham after spending the last two seasons in Italy (Telegraph).

Serie A outfit Atalanta are also credited with interest in Tomiyasu, however Spurs believe that he could be set to become their first summer signing.

The sooner we can get our business done the better so they can get some pre-season games under their belt and adapt to life at Spurs and under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

Tomiyasu’s situation is slightly different given his involvement at the Olympics, should Japan do well, he will have little time to get to grips with playing alongside his fellow defenders at Spurs.
