Report: Tottenham ‘confirm’ they will make offer for Arsenal target

Many reports seem to indicate that Tottenham are set to spend big this summer as they attempt to close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table (The Sun).

In stark contrast, Tottenham’s North London neighbours Arsenal, who have already lost Aaron Ramsey to Juventus, seem to short of funds this summer after failing to qualify for the Champions League. It is suggested that they have to sell players in order to be able to buy their targets (The Mirror).

One player who looked as if he is signing for the Gunners this summer is Saint-Etienne’s 18-year-old centre half, William Saliba (ESPN FC).

However, now it looks like even that deal might be in jeopardy as RMC Sport journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi has claimed that Tottenham have informed Saint-Etienne that they are in contact with Saliba and that they will be bidding for him this summer.

The young Frenchman has impressed everybody after breaking into the Saint-Etienne first team last season by displaying maturity beyond his years.

The teenager is reportedly available for a fee of around €30million (Metro).

While Saliba looks a special talent, Tottenham are well stocked at centre back with Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Foyth, Dier, and Davies all capable of playing in the role. So unless Alderweireld is to leave this summer, it is unlikely that the club will move for another central defender.
