Report: Tottenham ‘considering’ three defenders – two are more advanced

Tottenham are keeping tabs on defenders Milan Skriniar, Clement Lenglet and Pervis Estupinan, with their interest in the latter two at a slightly more advanced stage, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.

Spurs have been one of the most active of the Premier League clubs in the transfer market so far, drafting in four new players for Antonio Conte.

The North London side moved to bring Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster on respective free transfers before Mali midfielder Yves Bissouma was acquired in a £30 million deal from Brighton (BBC Sport) and Richarlison for £60m (Guardian).

And Jacobs has now revealed Tottenham do not plan to leave their business there, claiming they are focused on adding a defender and are ‘considering’ three players in particular.

The journalist stated Inter’s Skriniar, who was previously a transfer target for the club in 2020 (The Guardian), is one name in Spurs’ thoughts, as well as Barcelona’s Lenglet and Villarreal left-back Estupinan.

However, it is claimed that Tottenham’s advances with Lenglet and Estupinan specifically are currently ahead of Skriniar, who has also been targeted by Paris Saint-Germain this summer (Nicolo Schira).

Spurs’ interest in Lenglet has risen over the last few days with GOAL reporting they are in talks with Barcelona about a loan deal.

The same report also touted Ecuador international Estupinan with a permanent move to N17 in a potential transfer that could cost €15 million (£13m).

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have been pretty clear about their need to bring in a defender or two this summer and they look to be on solving that dilemma.

Lenglet isn’t exactly the top option especially when placed next to Skriniar, but he is still a decent acquisition in terms of squad depth.

Estupinan is an interesting one given he already had a tricky stint in England with Watford, although he has managed to reinvent himself at Villarreal.
