Report: Tottenham could attempt swoop for experienced Juventus star

CalcioMercatoTV have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could make a sensational move for Juventus legend Leonardo Bonucci in January.

Bonucci has made 486 appearances across two spells at Juventus and remains the captain of the Serie A giants, as well as of the Italian national side.

However, CalcioMercatoTV claim that the 35-year-old is now set to depart Turin when the transfer window reopens.

The report asserts that Bonucci does not have a cordial relationship with Massimiliano Allegri at the moment, and the centre-back has decided that he wants a change of scenery.

It is explained that the Italian is expected to leave the Allianz Arena in January even though his departure will lead to anger among the Juve supporters.

CalcioMercatoTV state that Antonio Conte, who worked with Bonucci at the Bianconeri, wants to reunite with the defender at Spurs and is ready to welcome him with ‘open arms’.

The report claims Fabio Paratici is also a fan of the experienced centre-back and that a deal is ‘not impossible’ for Tottenham to pull off.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs lack a natural cover for Eric Dier in the central sweeper role and Bonucci could certainly fit in that role for a season or two if he is willing to be a bit-part player.

While the Italian’s age is a concern, the likes of Thiago Silva have proved that it is possible to adapt to the Premier League in the twilight of one’s career.

The 35-year-old will certainly add more leadership and a winning mentality to the Tottenham dressing room if he is to come to North London.
