Report: Tottenham could battle Arsenal for £60m-rated Premier League star

The Sun have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Arsenal for Leicester City midfielder James Maddison this summer.

Maddison was considered to be one of the best young talents in English football a few years ago but the attacking midfielder’s stock has arguably fallen over the last two years.

However, the 25-year-old has enjoyed somewhat of a resurgence this season, having found the back of the net 13 times and provided nine assists across all competitions for the Foxes so far (Transfermarkt).

The Sun claim that both Spurs and Arsenal are long-time admirers of Maddison and could be going head-to-head for the England international’s signature this summer.

The report adds that Leicester could be tempted to cash in on the midfielder, whose contract at the King Power stadium runs until 2024, but Brendan Rodgers’ men are expected to demand a fee of £60m.

It is asserted that Antonio Conte is a fan of Maddison but a potential move for the Leicester star could depend on whether Spurs are able to offload Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso.

Spurs Web Opinion

Conte admitted last week that he intends to sign a playmaker so that Kane can stay closer to goal next season (Football.London). So a number 8/10 is certainly on the agenda for Spurs this summer.

Maddison would be a good fit as he is quite young, homegrown and is used to the demands of the Premier League. However, £60m would be a steep price to pay for a player who might not be an automatic starter for us.
