Florian Plettenberg has told Sky Germany (28/08) that Tottenham are exploring a late move for Augsburg striker Mergim Berisha.
Berisha spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Augsburg from Fenerbahce and the striker hit the ground running in the Bundesliga, finishing the campaign with nine goals and four assists in 23 league games (Transfermarkt).
The 25-year-old’s displays even saw him called up to the German national side, with the striker winning his first two caps for Die Mannschaft in the friendlies against Peru and Belgium back in March.
Unsurprisingly, Augsburg took up the €4m (£3.4m) option to buy the centre-forward permanently back in May and it was reported at the time that they were prepared to sell him on for a profit this summer, with the German club said to value the player at €15m-€20m (£12.8m-£17.1m) (Buli News).
Tottenham exploring late deal for Mergim Berisha
Plettenberg has now revealed that Dortmund are eyeing a move Berisha, with the Yellow Submarine’s pursuit of the striker said to be getting ‘hot’.
The journalist stated that the Bundesliga side could be challenged by Spurs, who also hold an interest in the Augsburg star. He added that we could see more developments on Berisha’s future in the next 24 hours.
Spurs Web Opinion
I watched Bayern’s clash with Augsburg on Sunday to see how Kane got on and Berisha really caught my eye. Despite coming up against two physically imposing centre-halves in Kim Min-Jae and Dayot Upamecano, the 25-year-old acquitted himself very well and proved a handful for the Bayern backline until he came off.
