Report: Tottenham could battle Celtic for a former Man United starlet

According to a report from The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in signing Nice wonderkid Deji Sotona.

Sotona came through the ranks of the Manchester United academy and showed real potential in the youth ranks at Old Trafford before leaving the club for Nice in the summer of 2020.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the Ligue 1 club but has impressed for their youth sides.

It appears the youngster’s burgeoning reputation has captured the interest of several clubs across the continent including Tottenham.

According to reports, Chelsea previously tried in vain to sign the versatile winger, who can also play as a central striker.

However, The Telegraph have now suggested that Spurs could be set to offer Sotona a route back into English football.

The report reveals the North Londoners’ main competition for the Republic of Ireland youth international is set to come from Celtic.

One of the reasons that Spurs brought in Paratici is to identify young, upcoming stars like Sotona before they explode. That is the best shot we have of competing with the likes of City and Chelsea in the long-term given that we cannot go toe to toe with them in the transfer market.

According to reports, Paratici is already making structural changes to the scouting system at Spurs. So, one can expect the club to sign an increasing number of young talents over the coming years.
