Report: Tottenham could battle Man United for 24-year-old midfielder

According to the print edition of Record (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Manchester United in the race for Sporting Lisbon Morten Hjulmand.

Hjulmand has had a terrific first season in the Portuguese top flight following his move from Lecce last summer and his consistent displays in the middle of the park are one of the key reasons why Ruben Amroim’s side currently sits at the top of the table.

The 24-year-old is expected to play a key role in Denmark’s Euros campaign this summer and could start alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a double pivot.

Tottenham and Man United both like Morten Hjulmand

Record now saw that some ‘European sharks’ are circling around Hjulmand after the midfielder’s stellar first season in Lisbon.

The outlet names Spurs and Manchester United as two clubs who are keen on the player but does not provide much more detail about their pursuits.

This is not the first time the publication has reported on Tottenham’s pursuit of Hjulmand, with Record (via Sport Witness) claiming last month that the Lilywhties had sent scouts to Portugal to watch the midfielder in action over recent weeks.

However, it was suggested at the time that Sporting are hopeful that the former Lecce man will reject the Premier League side’s advances in the summer and decide to remain at Jose Alvalade Stadium next season.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham have been linked with several number-sixes over the last couple of months, which is not surprising, given that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp could both depart the club this summer.

I doubt if Hjulmand would be at the top of Spurs’ wishlist as Levy and co would be aware that Sporting are notoriously difficult to negotiate with.
