Report: Tottenham could be in line for financial boost thanks to West Ham

The Daily Mirror have claimed that West Ham United are now looking to sign former Tottenham Hotspur winger Jack Clarke, with Spurs set to benefit from the potential transfer.

While Clarke failed to impress at Tottenham, making just four senior appearances in his three seasons with the Lilywhites, the youngster has started fulfilling his potential since his switch to the Stadium of Light.

The 23-year-old was one of Sunderland’s best players last season, helping them win promotion to the Championship via the playoffs, and the winger has subsequently taken his game up another notch this season, having scored 12 goals and provided two assists in 26 league appearances (Transfermarkt).

His form has reportedly attracted attention from top-flight clubs, with HITC revealing last week that Burnley and Sheffield United are circling over the youngster.

The report explained that the Black Cats value Clarke at £20m and explained that Tottenham would be owed 30 per cent of any fee due to the sell-on clause they have for the player.

West Ham plotting move for ex-Spurs Jack Clarke

The race for the former Spurs man’s signature now appears to be heating up, with The Mirror now claiming that the Hammers are set to make a move for the winger

It is alleged that David Moyes is keen on adding more firepower to his squad this month and has set his sights on Clarke but the report adds that Sunderland are confident of holding on to their star man until the end of the season.

Interestingly, West Ham are thought to have identified the Leeds academy graduate as an alternative for another former Spurs winger, Steven Bergwijn, who left the North London club to join Ajax 18 months ago.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will be watching the situation closely as they would be in line to receive £6m if Clarke is sold for £20m. That is certainly a decent chunk of change and would be a boost to Spurs in their efforts to get the Dragusin deal over the line and then plot a move for a midfielder.
