Report: Tottenham could be set for a three-way battle for Serie A star

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have revealed that Tottenham look poised to engage in a three-way battle with Juventus and AS Roma for Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

It is now fairly clear that signing Hugo Lloris’ successor is a priority for the North London club in the summer.

Alasdair Gold reported via Football.London two weeks ago that Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Robert Sanchez and Mike Maignan are the four names on the top of their wishlist to replace the Frenchman.

In addition, reports over recent weeks have also credited the Lilywhites with an interest in Napoli’s Alex Meret (Forza Azzurri) and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez (90 min).

Vicario, who has been extremely consistent between the sticks for Empoli since joining the club for Cagliari around 18 months ago, was first mooted as a target for Spurs by Gazzetta dello Sport back in November.

The speculation linking the 26-year-old with a move to Tottenham has now resurfaced, with CMW.it claiming that Conte has identified the Italian goalkeeper has the man to take over the gloves from Lloris.

However, the report explains that a deal for the Vicario will not prove straightforward for the Premier League club, who are set to battle Juventus and AS Roma for the Empoli star’s signature in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Tottenham will want to wait and see if Jordan Pickford signs a new contract with Everton before making a decision on who to pursue.

I think the England international is unlikely to actually sign his new deal until Everton get out of trouble and there is no doubt in my mind that the 28-year-old will become the North London club’s top target if the Toffees go down.
