Report: Tottenham could become favourites to sign Real Madrid midfielder in January

The likely eventual loss of Christian Eriksen has been hanging over Spurs for what feels like an eternity. The playmaker has been integral to the club under Pochettino and is seen as irreplaceable by some fans.

However, reports today suggest that Eriksen leaving for Real Madrid would open the door to the club signing Spanish Superstar Isco as a replacement (El Desmarque).

He has never been able to break through as the main man at Real Madrid and was frozen out under Santiago Solari last season.

Despite this, the Spaniard is a fan favourite and signing him would be a huge statement from Tottenham on whether they want to be an elite club or not.

Losing Eriksen is going to be very tough when he does go, however, his performances recently have been well below par. He has made it clear that he wants a new challenge (Ekstra Bladet), so getting in a player like Isco who will be hungry for success could improve the team’s performances massively.

If this deal is on the table then Levy must do whatever it takes to make it happen. It would bring in a player who could genuinely replace Eriksen and would allow the club to keep some dignity. The playmaker’s £120,000 a week wages would be well within the club’s budget, but convincing him to leave Madrid could prove to be a challenge.
