Report: Tottenham could compete with AC Milan for Argentine starlet

According to Calcio Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are one of a whole host of clubs who have expressed an interest in signing River Plate starlet, Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez, who came through the River Plate academy, has started the season on fire, with the centre-forward already having scored seven goals and registered eight assists in just 11 league appearances.

The striker’s impressive form seems to have caught the eye of several European clubs, if CalcioMercato are to be believed.

The report claims the 21-year-old is at the top of AC Milan’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window.

It is explained that the Rossoneri tried to sign the striker last year but found River Plate’s €25m (£21.2m) asking price to be excessive and hence pulled out of the deal.

However, it is thought that Alvarez could be available on a cut-price deal in January as his current contract expires in December 2022.

The report adds that apart from Spurs, Milan are also facing competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa, and Sevilla for the centre-forward.

I do feel we have left ourselves a little short by not replacing Carlos Vinicius as we do not have a more direct option to call on from the bench as a plan B.

Alvarez seems to possess the qualities to serve that role but there is always a big risk associated with signing players straight from South America.
