Report: Tottenham could look to raid AS Monaco for central midfielder

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in AS Monaco midfielder Youssuf Fofana.

Tottenham have seemingly kicked off their summer transfer business early, with reports indicating that the North London club are expected to wrap up the signings of Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic on free transfers (Football Insider).

It has previously been reported that the North London club are also eyeing moves for Alessandro Bastoni and Gleison Bremer (The Telegraph).

Tottenham’s interest in those two players has now been backed up by TMW, who claim that they are among the ‘4 to 5 purchases’ that Antonio Conte wants to make this summer.

Apart from the Inter Milan and Torino stars, it is asserted that Fofana is also on the Lilywhites’ summer transfer wishlist.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has established himself as a regular in the Monaco side over the last couple of years, making 46 appearances across all competitions in 2021/22 campaign (Transfermarkt).

TMW claim that the former France Under-21 international would represent a ‘solution’ for Spurs between building for the future and strengthening the squad at present.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Fofana is 23 years of age, if we do sign him, one would not expect the player to be loaned back to Moncao like Pape Sarr was to Metz. However, the midfielder is unlikely to be looked at as a player to strengthen our starting eleven and is probably more of a signing for the future.
