CMW.it have revealed that Tottenham could make a move for Luis Enrique should Antonio Conte leave the club at the end of this season.

Reports over recent weeks have suggested that Tottenham have opened talks with Conte’s entourage over a new contract and the North London club are ‘confident’ the Italian will commit his future to the club (The Athletic and Football London).

However, Italian publications have continued to insist that a return to Juventus next summer is on the cards for the 53-year-old.

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport ( as relayed by Sport Witness) stated a little over a month ago that Conte is Juve’s number one target to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season.

CMW.it have now claimed that the 53-year-old’s future is ‘far from clear’ and that the former Inter boss still does not want to talk about a potential contract renewal.

Although the Spurs hierarchy are thought to have full trust in Conte, they are said to be making contingency plans in case the Italian decides that he does not want to stay beyond the summer.

The report asserts that the Lilywhites are ready to open talks with Enrique, who parted ways with Spain after their elimination at the round of 16 stage of the World Cup. The former Barcelona head coach is said to ‘fit perfectly’ into the profile that Spurs are looking at to potentially replace Conte.

Spurs Web Opinion

It makes sense for Spurs to be drawing up contingency plans regarding Conte’s replacement even if they are reasonably confident that the Italian will sign a new deal. However, Enrique, in many ways, would be the polar opposite of Conte, and Spurs would thus need to completely overhaul the squad if they appoint the Spaniard.
