Report: Tottenham could make a bid for Serie A centre-back in January

CalcioMercatoWeb have reported that Tottenham could make a bid for Alessandro Bastoni in January as they look to reinforce Antonio Conte’s back line.

The report claims that Spurs are tempted to put a mid-season bid in for the Italian defender, who Inter Milan currently value at £52 million.

Of course, Antonio Conte worked with Bastoni at Inter and even won the Serie A title with the 23-year-old back in 2021 – and if CalcioMercatoWeb are to be believed, Conte wants an Italian reunion in North London to mark the new year.

However, this comes after FC Inter News reported this week that Tottenham had been ‘deflected’ from the race for Bastoni, while Manchester City were keeping a keen eye on the Inter star as a potential new Pep Guardiola recruit.

The report claimed that Spurs were rejected by Inter in the summer and have no plans to return for Bastoni due to Conte’s uncertain Tottenham future.

Having said that, Tuttosport (25/11/12 as relayed by FCInterNews and Sport Witness) also claimed that Milan could perform somewhat of a transfer U-turn and sell the defender to Tottenham in the winter window if Levy puts in a sizeable bid – with Spurs backed to ‘try again’ for the Italian.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Bastoni feels like the one Conte wants and the one Tottenham are most likely to get at the moment. It would take a huge fee to get him in January, so I suspect Spurs may strengthen the central sweeper role, midfield, and attack first, then move for Bastoni in the summer.
