Report: Tottenham could make a move for Atletico Madrid defender

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham hold an interest in Atletico Madrid centre-back Mario Hermoso.

The Athletic revealed last week that Spurs are expected to prioritise signing a left-sided centre-back to compete with Ben Davies when the transfer window opens this summer.

The report named RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol, Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni, Lille’s Sven Botman and Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck as four options on Tottenham’s wishlist.

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, Hermoso is another option that Spurs are monitoring for the left centre-back role.

The Spain international has been a mainstay in Atletico’s backline since his move from Espanyol back in the summer of 2019.

However, the 26-year-old has fallen down Diego Simione’s pecking order since the arrival of Reinaldo Mandava to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium during the January transfer window.

The Mail also backup The Athletic’s claim, stating that Antonio Conte’s men also have their eyes on Gvardiol and Bastoni.

Hermoso is arguably a much better fit for the left centre-back role than the likes of Botman and Gvardiol, who are both better suited to playing as part of a back four.

Bastoni would be my preferred choice and I believe that the Inter star is very gettable, given that the Nerazzurri reportedly have to raise funds this summer to pursue their transfer targets (Tuttosport).
