Report: Tottenham could make move for 28-year-old World Cup 2022 winner

CalcioMercatoWeb.it have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodrigo De Paul.

The report states that De Paul is considered surplus to requirements by Diego Simeone and is ‘destined’ to leave Atletico when the transfer market opens in the summer.

It is alleged that the former Udinese man was previously on the radars of Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus but all three clubs have abandoned their pursuit of the midfielder since they consider him to be too expensive.

The Argentina international is thus not expected to return to Serie A, with a move to the Premier League considered more likely in the summer.

Tottenham are said to be eyeing a move for De Paul, with the publication stating that the North London club are not put off by Atletico’s price tag.

CMW.it add that Fabio Paratici is a fan of the World Cup winner and the Lilywhites could make an opening offer of €30m (£26.2m) for the player when the window opens.

Finally, the report asserts that Spurs have an excellent relationship with Atletico, which could prove ‘decisive’ in the negotiations over De Paul.

Spurs Web Opinion

De Paul might be one of many names on Paratici’s wishlist but it is premature to be talking about summer transfer targets before Spurs finalise Conte’s replacement.

The tactical set-up of the next manager will obviously play a huge role in finalising the club’s main targets.
