Report: Tottenham could move for former Liverpool playmaker if Harry Kane leaves

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move for Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho, should Harry Kane leave the cub, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims that Coutinho’s Kia Joorabchian and Barcelona are aware of Tottenham’s interest.

The Catalan giants do not wish to sell the former Liverpool player but could be tempted to part company should a substantial offer be made.

The Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move to North London in the past, with Spurs said to have ended their interest in a potential loan deal back in the summer of 2019 while Mauricio Pochettino was still in charge (BBC).

Kane’s situation at Tottenham has been well documented this week, with The Athletic claiming that he has no desire to play for the club again and has his heart set on a move to Manchester City.

Coutinho’s wage demands would pose a big problem for Spurs, considering he is said to earn around £328,000-a-week at Barcelona.

While the playmaker is a quality player, he is not an out-and-out striker and I struggle to see how he could be considered as a direct replacement for Kane.
