Report: Tottenham could now battle Liverpool for Portuguese starlet

GiveMeSport have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have been keeping a close eye on Benfica starlet Antonio Silva, along with Liverpool and Manchester United.

Silva has established himself as a mainstay in the Benfica backline, and his performances, particularly those in the Champions League, have turned quite a lot of heads.

GiveMeSport claim that Spurs want a new centre-back as a top priority this summer and that the 19-year-old has moved up their list after another target, Milan Skriniar, agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain for next season.

The report states that the teenager is also high on Liverpool’s wishlist, with the Reds attempting to reinforce their backline so they can get back into the Premier League title race conversation next season.

It is revealed that Spurs and Liverpool seem most primed to pursue Silva at this stage but might be put off by Benfica’s asking price, with the Portuguese club wanting a substantial fee for the youngster, whose release clause is set at €100m (£88m).

GiveMeSport explain that even though the prospect of playing in England appeals to the Portugal international, he could also attract interest from across the continent, with Napoli and Borussia Dortmund also thought to have their eye on the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

Silva very much looks like a Paratici target, given his age and high ceiling.

The uncertainty surrounding the future of the Italian at Spurs would almost certainly disrupt the club’s summer transfer plans and might give their competitors (in this case, Liverpool) an advantage.

This is especially the case now that Paratici has taken leave until his hearing results.
