Report: Tottenham could now go ‘on the offensive’ for Ligue 1 striker

Foot Mercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could be about to step up their pursuit of Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

Following Harry Kane’s departure, Spurs have been linked with moves for a whole host of strikers over the past 24 hours.

The likes of Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic (Gazzetta dello Sport), Gent’s Gift Orban (The Athletic) and even Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku (CalicoMercato) have been mooted as potential replacements for England’s captain.

Spurs could accelerate move for Elye Wahi

Foor Mercato have now asserted that Tottenham are now ‘very hot on the file’ of Wahi and could decide to go ‘concretely on the offensive’ for the Frenchman.

However, it is explained that the North London club face plenty of competition for the 20-year-old, who scored 19 goals and provided six assists in Ligue 1 last season.

The outlet asserts that Chelsea have already had a €28m (£24.1m) offer for Wahi turned down by Montpellier while Eintracht Frankfurt and Paris Saint-Germain have also contacted the French club to ask about the striker.

Wahi would arguably be a safer gamble than Gift Orban as the Frenchman has shown plenty of promise at a higher level than the Nigerian has. The 20-year-old would also offer Postecoglou more options as he can also play on the flanks.
