Report: Tottenham could sign Ivan Toney for a ‘surprise fee’ this summer

Brentford appear ready to accept just £40m for Ivan Toney this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur ready to pull the trigger on the transfer.

It has been well documented that Tottenham regard signing a new number 9 striker as a top priority this summer (GiveMeSport).

Apparently, Ivan Toney is on Ange Postecoglou‘s wishlist when it comes to filling that role (ESPN) but previous talk of a £60m price tag had made things difficult (GiveMeSport).

However, Brentford have dropped their asking price recently, and it is now thought they will demand between £30-40m instead (TEAMtalk).

With Toney serving a ban for the first half of the season, and only managing four goals in the last 17 games, his stock has certainly taken a hit of late. This has led to Arsenal potentially dropping out of the race to sign Toney, leaving just Spurs and Manchester United.

Brentford are ready to let Ivan Toney go

The latest from Football Insider suggests Tottenham are positioning themselves to snap Toney up for £40m, and Brentford are unlikely to stand in their way.

Pete O’Rourke revealed the “surprise” price tag of £40m would be enough to snare Toney away from the Bees this summer, albeit “reluctantly” on Brentford’s behalf.

Described as a “ready-made goalscorer,” Toney is expected to “provide an impact” in North London if Spurs were to sign him.

With his contract expiring in 2025, the chances of a move are now looking all the more likely, and O’Rourke believes Brentford are ready to cash in.

Spurs Web Opinion

I reckon Ivan Toney is about as close to a risk-free signing in that forward area we can find. He’d be relatively cheap and we know he can score goals in the Premier League, plus he’s homegrown which is an added bonus. I think he would definitely improve our squad, anyway.
