Report: Tottenham could still make a move for Pau Torres this summer

According to 90 min, Tottenham Hotspur could still make a move for Villarreal’s Pau Torres this summer despite being on the verge of signing Clement Lenglet.

Lenglet looks set to be the first centre-back to arrive through the door at Spurs this summer, with Fabrizio Romano revealing recently that the North London club are close to agreeing on a loan deal with Barcelona.

Despite the Lenglet development, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare told the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel last week that he would not rule out Spurs making a move for Alessandro Bastoni this summer.

However, that appears increasingly unlikely as the days go by, with La Gazzetta dello Sport reporting over the weekend that Inter are likely to hand the 23-year-old the captain’s armband ahead of the 2022/23 season.

90 min have now claimed that Lenglet is ‘close’ to sealing a loan move to Hotspur Way but added that he might not be the only centre-back to arrive through the door this summer.

The publication have claimed that Spurs continue to hold an interest in Torres, who has two years left to run on his contract at El Madrigal (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

If Antonio Conte really fancied Pau Torres, I do not think Spurs would have pushed ahead with a move for Lenglet. Conte has spoken a lot about signing Premier League-ready players and I suspect he does not think Torres would be able to handle the physicality of English football.

I believe that Tottenham’s thinking behind signing Lenglet on loan is to try again for Bastoni or Gvardiol next summer. While I do expect Spurs to sign another central defender this summer, I think it is likely to be a right-footer like Bremer to potentially replace Davinson Sanchez.
