Report: Tottenham could suffer blow in alleged pursuit of midfielder amid contract talks

CaughtOffisde have claimed that Chelsea are now ready to open discussions over a new contract with Tottenham target Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher is evidently valued highly by Mauricio Pochettino, having started every single one of Chelsea’s Premier League matches so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Some reports over the last couple of weeks have continued to indicate that the Blues hierarchy are open to cashing in on the 23-year-old amidst Tottenham’s interest (The Athletic).

Chelsea ready to open contract talks with Gallagher

However, CaughtOffside have now suggested that the West London Clubs are ready to tie Gallagher down to a long-term deal.

The report explains that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy are expected to show their commitment to Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term project and they plan on doing this by resolving the England international’s contract situation.

The outlet adds that the Blues are not rushing to tie down Gallagher to a new deal just yet since he is contracted to the club until 2025, but they are willing to hold discussions with the player’s entourage.

CaughtOffside add that Sprus are ‘worth keeping their eye on’, explaining that the Lilywhites could make a move for the Chelsea academy graduate in January if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg departs.

Spurs Web Opinion

It would not be easy for Tottenham to prize Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge as Pochettino appears to be a fan of the midfielder.

Having said that, three months is a long time in football and the 23-year-old could find himself having fallen down the Argentine’s pecking order by the time the transfer window reopens.
