Report: Tottenham could try again for 31-year-old after January enquiry

AS have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur asked about the availability of Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou during the January window and that the North London club could reignite their interest in the Moroccan in the summer.

The report states that Spurs had some doubts about Hugo Lloris and thus asked about Bounou’s price last month.

It is alleged that had Tottenham’s number one picked up his knee injury before the transfer deadline, the Lilywhites might have launched an offer of more than €20m (£17.6m) for the Sevilla star.

AS add that Antonio Conte’s men could make an attempt to snap up Bounou in the summer, with Sevilla expecting ‘important offers’ to arrive for their number one.

The report adds that should Jorge Sampaoli’s men fail to qualify for Europe, they will have to offload some players to balance the books, with the Moroccan international being considered one of their most sellable assets.

However, it is explained that Spurs might not be the only Premier League club who look to swoop for Bounou in the summer, with the 31-year-old also of interest to Manchester United and West Ham United.

Bounou is a talented goalkeeper and he showed during the World Cup that he is not fazed by big moments and can handle pressure.

However, given that he will turn 32 before the summer, the Moroccan will be a short-term option for a couple of seasons rather than being Lloris’ long-term successor.
