Report: Tottenham could turn attention to 26-year-old Pedro Porro alternative

FC Inter News have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could turn their attention to Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries as their negotiations with Sporting Lisbon over Pedro Porro have hit a dead end.

Multiple outlets over the last week have indicated that Sporting are demanding that Porro’s £40m release clause be met while Tottenham are unwilling to do so (AS).

FC Inter News have now revealed that the Spaniard is Antonio Conte’s top target for the right wing-back role and that the North Londoners have gone as far as offering Sporting €35m (£30.9m) for the player, which is payable in three instalments.

However, it is asserted that such an offer has not been enough to convince the Portuguese club, even though Spurs have also struck an agreement over personal terms with Porro.

The report states that the Lilywhites could thus turn their attention to the second name on Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte’s shopping list, which is Dumfries.

The report adds that the Dutchman is also on Chelsea’s radar but the Blues have not ‘taken any official steps’ to sign him this window.

FC Inter News add that Dumfries’ agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is currently in London and could open discussions with the Tottenham hierarchy regarding a transfer.

It is asserted that Inter value the Netherlands internationally at €50m (£44.2m) but would consider a proposal of around €40m (£35.4m).

Some might question why Spurs are not willing to meet Porro’s £40m release clause while perhaps potentially considering paying the same amount for Dumfries.

The crucial difference is that to activate a release clause, the entire fee would have to be paid upfront, which is not usually the case with transfer fees as they are often paid in multiple instalments.

Tottenham’s interest in Dumfries could also simply be a negotiating tactic by the North London club to get Sporting to relax their demands for Porro.
